2004 – Development of a short and medium-term action plan for the promotion of the green bean sector in the Office du Niger zone in Mali

What we did

A feasibility study was conducted and detailed strategies proposed for enhancing green bean production and export in Mali, improving and emphasizing economic benefits, market access, infrastructure development, production requirements and international certification standards.

Conclusions

The conclusions reached in the assessment highlight several critical points for improving agricultural practices in Mali. These include the favorable conditions for growing various types of vegetables for local markets and export. However, challenges such as low-quality seeds, inefficient farming practices and techniques, and limited pest control persist in the country. Technological advancements in irrigation and the use of organic fertilizers could increase productivity. Additionally, improving seed supply, including testing new varieties and enhancing local production, is necessary to reduce Mali’s reliance on imports. Finally, to improve market access, the development of infrastructure such as cold storage and transportation is recommended.
