Action Plan for Promoting Green Beans in Mali’s Office du Niger Zone

Mali, 2004

Client: Royal Embassy of the Netherlands in Mali

What we did

A feasibility study was conducted and detailed strategies proposed for enhancing green bean production and export in Mali, improving and emphasizing economic benefits, market access, infrastructure development, production requirements and international certification standards

Conclusions

To be eligible for exports to the potential customer, the following requirements are set:

  1. EUREP-GAP certification of the Bobby green bean production process.
  2. Compliance with delivery times and packaging standards.
  3. External requirements related to preservation of product quality (use of an efficient cold chain, etc.).
  4. Compliance with commercial standards, EUREP-GAP Framework.

The external requirements related to product quality and compliance with commercial standards were combined with internal requirements, which included rural advice (organization of producers and training on technical production methods) and facilitated access for stakeholders to packaging and cold storage infrastructures.
