Goal 

EUCORD partnered with ICRISAT on the implementation of the EU funded APSAN project "Improving Crop Productivity and Climate Resilience for Food and Nutrition Security in Mali" (EU-APSAN-Mali) between 2020 to 2024.

What we do

The main activities carried out by EUCORD/Mali include:

  • Organize on-farm demonstrations and field days with farmer organizations
  • Community mobilization in the target areas around the project's demonstrations and activities
  • Training of farmers organizations (8 cooperatives in total)
  • The co-facilitation of the innovation platforms focused on seed sales, group input purchases, participation in the various fairs, acquisition of post-harvest equipment, revitalizing relationships between input suppliers, linking financial institutions, capacity building on market organization

Accomplishments

  • In November 2023, EUCORD supported by the Bougouni agriculture sector organized a farmers' day in the communes of Faragouaran and Zantiébougou around demonstrations. A total of 76 people from the 8 villages of the project participated
  • Radio broadcasts produced
  • Covers all 10 communes around the city of Bougouni
  • 522 farmers (including 273 women) were trained during the project on good agricultural practices for sorghum; millet, cowpea and peanuts
  • Farmers have greatly appreciated sorghum hybrids Yebagasago and Wassanio; sorghum variety Niobougouma; cowpea varieties Acar1 and Simbo; millet varieties Maiwa C1 and Konomougnou; and peanut varieties Fleur 11 and 19BT
  • The project supported two innovation platforms with NGO Malimark to enhance commercialization of agricultural produce
